Benefits of Youth Gardening

Time outdoors: In this day and age, when children are not in school, unscheduled time quickly becomes “screen time”.  According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, American children 8 to 18 years spend an average of nearly 6 hours a day in front of a TV, on the computer (outside of schoolwork), and playing video games.  This culture of screen-media entertainment has become so pervasive that author Richard Louv proposed that children now suffer from “Nature Deficit Disorder”.
